About the Opportunity

The Work Health and Safety System Coordinator is integral in the maintenance of Council's Work Health & Safety Management System (WHSMS) and ensuring commitment to a best practice governance framework while continually striving for improvement with new and innovative ways of ensuring council provides a safe workplace for our staff, contractors and visitors now and into the future.

We are looking for candidate who is motivated and can demonstrate behaviours that are aligned to our values of respect, integrity, safety, community, innovation and teamwork.  It will be important the role is able to confidently advise and engage stakeholders on the WHSMS and provide data and analytics to Managers and Senior Staff to ensure informed decisions are made relating to the management of framework and its systems.  The role will be key in assisting with internal and external audits to maintain the ISO45001 certification standards.

The role will be based at Council's main Parkes Administration Centre, however will be required to travel to worksites within the shire. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Verifiable Diploma in Work Health and Safety, Local Government or other related discipline
  • 3-5 years experience as a leader in a WHS or Local Government related role
  • Cert IV in Training & Assessing (desirable) and/or experience in delivering structured in-house training programs
  • Experience in conducting or coordinating audit processes
  • An understanding of the LEAN methodology and/or experience in applying business improvement practices in the workplace
  • Ability to drive engagement and accountability of a work health and safety system or related framework across an organisation
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work collaboratively across work areas
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to communicate in person and administer correspondence in a tactful, professional and efficient manner 
  • Solid computer skills with experience in the Microsoft Suite and demonstrated ability to record and anaylse data and prepare reports to inform decision making 
  • Current Class C Drivers licence
  • SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Working with Children Check
Other details relating to this position are:
  • The Grade range band applicable to the position is Grade 13 to 14, for a 35 hour week within Council's salary structure.
  • The salary range is from $71,396 to $86.618 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
  • 35 hour working week and a fortnightly RDO
  • Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award 2017
