Parkes Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Youth Officer to join our team on a 3-year fixed term, part-time basis (18 hours per week). This is an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver innovative youth programs and activities that encourage participation, creativity and connection across the Parkes Shire.
Working from the Library and Marramarra Makerspace, as well as throughout the broader community, you'll play a key role in creating safe and welcoming spaces where young people can learn, connect and thrive.

About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and creating positive opportunities within the community. You enjoy building genuine relationships, thinking creatively and delivering programs that make a real difference.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Certificate IV or higher qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Library Services, Education or a related discipline (or a willingness to obtain).
- A current NSW Working with Children Check.
- A current Class C Driver Licence.
- Experience working with young people, community groups or in a community-focused role.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to engage and connect with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience coordinating programs, activities, workshops or community events.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft 365 applications.
- An understanding of child-safe principles and a commitment to creating safe, inclusive and welcoming environments for young people.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team while also using initiative to work independently.
Salary and Benefits
The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.
The role has been evaluated as being Grade 10 of the Council's salary structure with a commencing rate of $40.10 per hour. The actual starting salary will be determined upon the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidates.
