About the Opportunity

Parkes Shire Council is looking for a Land Use Planning Specialist to join our Planning and Certification team in Parkes, NSW. 

As a Land Use Planning Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our community. Your expertise will guide land use planning decisions, ensuring responsible development and environmental assessments.  

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Timely and accurate assessments, advice and documentation.
  • Building and maintaining strong internal and reporting procedures.
  • Processing of development applications and certificates.
  • Delivery of Council's environmental planning responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management Program.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes. 
  • Other duties as required by Parkes Shire Council

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, coupled with ongoing professional development to support contemporary knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience in the assessment of complex development applications, strategic planning projects and successfully developing a team.
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • National Police History Check.
  • Current driver's licence.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Knowledge of the role, functions and responsibilities of Local Government.
  • Local Government experience in a management role.
  • Experience in development matters determined in the NSW Land and Environment Court.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. 

The role has been evaluated as being Grade 17 of Council's salary structure and offers a salary circa $98,000 to $113,000 ($53 to $62 per hour) (starting salary depends on skills and experience) plus super and salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay.
