Economic Development Project Officer (Fixed Term/Part-time)

About the Opportunity

Council is currently looking for external applications for a part-time Economic Development Officer to fill a maternity leave relief role within the Customer, Corporate Services and Economy department for up to thirteen (13) months.

In this varied role you will provide support for economic development projects and initiatives including events, activation, live-ability, place-making, business support, investment attraction, tourism and destination management and grants.

Remuneration and Benefits

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.

The role has been evaluated as Grade 14 of Council's salary structure with a starting salary of $45.67 per hour. The actual commencing salary to be determined upon the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidate as there are 3 salary steps within the grade.

About You

The successful applicant requires strong communication and teamwork skills. 

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Current and maintained NSW Driver’s Licence
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated work related experience
  • Willingness to sign a Child Safety Code of Conduct

It will be highly favorable if you possess any of the following:

  • Minimum three years in project management
  • Experience liaising with local communities, government and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of effective community engagement principles and techniques
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders both internally and externally
  • High level of verbal and written skills including the writing and delivery of strategies, plans and communications materials.

Interview Process

Applications will be shortlisted as they are received. You will be contacted by phone if you have been selected for interview.  You will be required to bring with you a copy of all relevant certificates and qualifications. The interview panel will consist of a panel of three.

Pre-employment Screening

In the event you are shortlisted for an interview, and are then selected to progress to the next stage following interview, you must be prepared to undergo the following pre-employment screening processes as part of the selection process:

  • A pre-employment physical examination (at Council's expense), including a hearing and drug and alcohol test

  • Please include two work related referees in your resume for reference checking purposes - please ensure your referee details are current

  • Undertake any other applicable screening that may be relevant to the role

  • Council may also check authenticity of certificates and qualifications

  • Provide the applicable Working with Children Check number should the role require work in a child or young person related area

  • Provide the applicable National Police History Check number if the role may has privileged access to systems and data

Working with Children Check

To create a child safe environment, all Council employees directly involved in child related work will require a Working with Children Check number.  More information can be found at the Office of the Children's Guardian website.  However, as Council is a Child Safe organisation, all other employees not directly involved in child related work will be required to sign a Child Safe Code of Conduct.
